In 2018, the athletic and cultural landscape of UMBC and metro Baltimore will change forever.

The UMBC Event Center—a spectacular multi-purpose facility located on campus adjacent to the stadium complex—will be a real game-changer. The center will host all Retriever NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball games, women’s volleyball games, as well as an exciting array of major concerts, internationally renowned speakers, University Commencement, and much more.

Features of the Event Center

  • Performance and support facilities to rival the very best among our mid-major peers in NCAA Division I. The center will enhance recruitment and retention of high-quality student-athletes, and provide one of the best home court advantages in the America East Conference.
  • A flexible, multi-purpose spectator facility that can seat up to approximately 6,000 people for concerts and other major events. The center will include concessions, catering, hospitality, and guest services.
  • An exciting and prestigious arena for students, alumni, and other community members attending games or events.
  • A visually striking facility that serves to connect the UMBC Stadium Complex, our residential communities, and academic buildings.

In addition, the UMBC Event Center will include a practice gymnasium; the offices of the Department of Athletics; state-of-the-art strength and conditioning and academic centers; a sports medicine suite; multimedia spaces; meeting facilities; and the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame.
